Chris, the organiser of the West Midlands Golf League, has been busy at it and wants to share a little note.
The West Midlands Golf League, nestled in Rowley Regis, has been swinging strong since 1967. Starting with 24 clubs, it's now grown to 36, but the original crew are still with us. The league's goal? Simple – promoting golf and building friendships through some good old competitive handicap golf in the West Midlands and beyond.
Running the show is a breeze with our electronic system. Emails, online banking, and a dedicated website keep everything ticking over nicely. Each zone has a Zone Secretary, elected annually, who updates the website with our fixtures and results. Steering the ship is a committee made up of the Zone Secretary, Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary.
Clubs chip in with an annual subscription fee, covering the league's running costs. Transparency is key, so every AGM, we present a full balance sheet to club reps.
And the tournaments – we've got some goodies! The Roberts-Levine Trophy is our top knockout contest – featuring top clubs from each zone plus a few best-placed third clubs. Matches are home-and-away, with the final at a neutral venue. Win that, and you're crowned West Midlands League Champion.
There's also the Lewis Trophy for the third-placed clubs and the fourth-placers, played in the same home-and-away style, with the finale somewhere neutral.
We truly value our partnerships with local clubs. For example, The South Staffordshire Golf Club has been fantastic hosts for several events, like the Davenports Salver, where clubs go toe-to-toe for the best better ball scores.
Fancy joining or need more info? Just get in touch with Chris and they'll sort out a meeting or chat about the league. Cheers!
