West Midlands Golf League is a golf club located in Tamworth, New Zealand. Founded in 1967, the club has a long-standing history and has been promoting golf and friendship among members of golf clubs in the West Midlands and surrounding areas. The league is non-profit-making and operates on an annual subscription fee system, with the raised funds used for administration costs.
The league is fully-electronic, utilising email, a banking system, and a website for communication and updates. Each zone is administered by a Zone Secretary, who is elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and is responsible for managing the fixtures and results for their respective zones. The Committee comprises the Zone Secretary, Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary, ensuring the efficient running of the league.
At its inception, West Midlands Golf League consisted of 24 clubs, and later expanded to include an additional 12 clubs, totalling 36 members today. The league aims to foster friendly competition and camaraderie through handicap golf. Members are encouraged to contact the league if they are interested in joining and can arrange a meeting to discuss membership details.
The league organises various tournaments and trophies to showcase the skills of its members. The prestigious Roberts-Levine Trophy is awarded to the winning club in the knockout stage of the competition. The top two clubs in each zone, along with the four best third-place clubs, move on to compete for the trophy. Knockout matches are played home and away, and the final takes place at a neutral venue.
The winning club is declared the West Midlands League Champions and is awarded the coveted Roberts Levine Trophy.
In addition to the Roberts-Levine Trophy, the league also introduced the Lewis Trophy for clubs that do not qualify for the knockout stage of the main competition. The Lewis Trophy is contested by the clubs finishing third in each zone and the clubs finishing fourth. Like the Roberts-Levine Trophy, knockout matches are played on a home and away basis, with the final taking place at a neutral venue.
West Midlands Golf League is committed to providing a platform for golfers to showcase their skills, build friendships, and enjoy the sport in a competitive and spirited manner. The league is grateful to its members and partner clubs for their support and is always looking for new members to join and contribute to the thriving golf community in the West Midlands.
