The West Midlands Golf League, founded in 1967, is a non-profit-making golf club based in Bromsgrove, New Zealand. With its commitment to promoting golf and fostering friendship amongst members, the league has become a prominent fixture in the West Midlands and surrounding areas.
Membership in the league requires an annual subscription fee, which is utilised for administration costs. At the Annual General Meeting (AGM), a full balance sheet is presented to each club representative. Embracing modern technology, the league's administration is fully electronic, utilising email, a banking system, and website updates.
Each zone within the league is overseen by a Zone Secretary who is elected at the AGM by the members. These secretaries are responsible for managing fixtures, results, and other necessary updates on the league's website. The league's committee, consisting of the Zone Secretary, Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary, work collaboratively to ensure the smooth running of the league.
Originally formed with 24 clubs, the West Midlands Golf League expanded by inviting an additional 12 clubs, making a current total of 36 clubs. The original 24 member clubs still actively participate in the league today.
The league's primary objective is to promote golf and foster friendship amongst its members through competitive handicap golf. The friendly and inclusive atmosphere of the West Midlands Golf League creates an exciting environment for both seasoned golfers and newcomers alike.
The league hosts various prestigious tournaments, including the Roberts-Levine Trophy and the Lewis Trophy. The top two clubs from each zone, along with the four best third-placed clubs, advance to the knockout stage of the Roberts-Levine Trophy. Matches are played home and away, with the final taking place at a neutral venue. The victorious club is declared the West Midlands League Champions of that year and awarded the highly coveted Roberts Levine Trophy.
The Lewis Trophy, introduced more recently, provides an additional knockout competition for the clubs finishing third in each zone, as well as the clubs finishing fourth in each zone. These matches also follow a home and away format, with the final played at a neutral venue. The winners of the Lewis Trophy are recognised for their outstanding performance.
