David is still very much involved in the practice and teaching of karate. Over the years, he’s achieved the rank of 6th Dan and now serves as the South West representative for the English Karate Federation.
Western Karate Wado-Ryu Kai, led by David, is a karate club based in Bideford, UK. With over 30 years of experience, this independent group is proud to be part of both the English Karate Federation and the British Karate Association. Classes are held at The Pollyfield Centre in East of the Water, Bideford, every Wednesday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Students aged 7 and above are welcome. The annual membership fee is £30, covering insurance and a licence, while each training session costs £5.
At Western Karate Wado-Ryu Kai, grading exams are organised approximately every 6 to 9 months. Fees vary, ranging from £15 for junior kyu grading to £100 for 3rd Dan grading. Students who pass their 9th kyu exam receive a free 'red' belt, and colour belts can be purchased following further gradings.
The club provides a full range of training equipment, including karate suits in all sizes. Junior sizes start at £20. Training manuals and grading syllabuses are available for £15. All instructors are DBS checked, insured, and trained in first aid to ensure the safety and well-being of all members.
As a non-profit organisation, all funds are used for administrative purposes. David’s main goal is to provide a hobby that helps individuals improve themselves, learn new skills, and gain confidence. The experienced instructors ensure that each training session is both fun and enjoyable.
