Western Melbourne Field Archers, an archery club situated in Laurie Emmins Reserve at Laverton, just a short 15-minute drive from the city, is excited to host a local archery event.
With not one, but two field archery ranges boasting a total of twenty targets each, this club is the perfect place for archery enthusiasts to improve their skills and have a great time doing so.
On the 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month, the club organises a club shoot on one of the field target courses. Visitors are more than welcome to come and try their hand at field archery during any of these meeting days.
For those without their own equipment worry not, as Western Melbourne Field Archers offers bows for hire at a fee of $10, along with a $10 deposit for the equipment. Shoot fees for the day are as follows: Adult $10, Junior $8 (12–17 years old), and Cubs $6 (11 years and under).
On the day of the meet, participants are asked to gather at the club rooms to register, pay their shoot fees, and be assigned to a small group. Each group then progresses through the field course, starting at their designated target.
Safety is a top priority at Western Melbourne Field Archers, which is why the groups are cleverly separated across the course. This ensures that everyone can enjoy their archery experience to the fullest.
The day's schedule consists of two rounds of the same 20 target course. In the morning round, archers are allowed to shoot up to three arrows per target, with only the best arrow scoring. After a satisfying lunch break at the club rooms, participants continue with a single arrow round in the afternoon.
To keep everyone energised and fueled throughout the day, there will be refreshments available for purchase during lunch and before the morning shoot. Nothing beats sipping on a refreshing soft drink and treating yourself to a tasty chocolate bar during a well-deserved break.
It's essential to note that the field course is only accessible on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month, during the official club field day. Shooting arrows outside these designated times is strictly illegal and may result in legal consequences.
For members, Western Melbourne Field Archers offers a practice range that can be used outside the club shooting times, allowing them to hone their skills whenever they desire.
Affiliated with the Australian Bowhunters Association, Western Melbourne Field Archers requires all members to hold or obtain ABA membership. This ensures that everyone adheres to national archery standards and practices.
So, if you're passionate about archery or simply want to give this incredible sport a try, join Western Melbourne Field Archers at their upcoming archery event and experience the thrill of hitting those targets dead on.
