Chris Martin, the organiser, wants to share some news about the West End Sports Ground in Colchester. This place is loved by both players and spectators and offers top-notch facilities for sports like football, rugby, cricket, bowls, and tennis.
Chris points out that individuals, teams, leagues, or schools can book the West End Sports Ground, making it perfect for various events and activities. Whether it's joining a local league or just having a friendly match, this spot is a fantastic choice.
One important thing Chris wants everyone to know about is the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) that was introduced to tackle dog fouling. In November 2016, Colchester Borough Council brought this order in to keep the sports pitches and archery areas dog-free and ensure dogs are on leads in other areas. Not picking up after your dog can get you a fine.
Thanks to the PSPO and the Council's Community Zone Wardens, who enforce it, the problem of dog fouling has greatly reduced. This success led to the extension of the order for another two years. Breaching the order can result in a £50 fine, which can go up to £1,000 with a court prosecution for non-payment.
Chris highlights that the PSPO was brought in after local sports clubs, residents, and organisations voiced their need for stricter rules. A 2015 survey backed this up, and the Council acted under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime, and Policing Act 2014.
To keep the area clean and enjoyable, Chris encourages everyone to report any dog fouling they see to the Council. This helps maintain public health and a pleasant environment for all.
With great facilities, a welcoming vibe, and a clean space, Chris believes the West End Sports Ground is the perfect place for sports lovers in Colchester.
