West End Spearers Paddling Group

Welcome to the West End Spearers Paddling Group! Established in 2004, we are a dedicated community of canoe and kayak enthusiasts located in West End, Australia.

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5am to 6am, we gather at the Orleigh Park Carpark to embark on our paddling adventures on the Brisbane River. Our club specialises in surfskis, ocean skis, and K1 kayaks, providing our members with a diverse range of paddling experiences.

One of our main highlights is the annual race called “The Cheese. ” This exciting event features a 9-kilometre course around a landmark called The Rock, offering participants a thrilling and challenging paddling experience. In addition to our regular paddling sessions and races, we also organise an annual pilgrimage to The AGM in November, providing an opportunity for our members to further explore their passion for canoeing and kayaking.

During holidays, we take our paddling expeditions to different locations. One of our favourite spots is The Black, which we reach by paddling from Breakfast Creek. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced paddler, we welcome all individuals who share a love for canoeing and kayaking to join us. To ensure the safety and enjoyment of our members, we closely monitor the tides and weather conditions. We provide easy access to predicted tides at West End, Breakfast Creek, Noosa, and Coomera. Additionally, we utilise data from reliable sources such as BOM Tide Predictions, Actual River Heights in St-Lucia, and Open-Meteo Free Weather API to assess the suitability of paddling conditions.

When planning our paddling sessions, we also take predicted daylight into account, allowing our members to fully enjoy the beauty of the surroundings during their early morning adventures. Our comprehensive calendar provides detailed information about tide patterns, daylight, and paddling opportunities for each day.

Whether you prefer a day paddle, dawn paddle, or night paddle, we strive to accommodate a range of preferences. We also highlight good tide days, ensuring our members can make the most of their paddling experiences.
