Hello Sports Community,
John Smith would like to personally thank each and every one of you for being a part of the Westcroft Judo Club family. Founded in 1996 in Carshalton within the London Borough of Sutton, this family-run club has been dedicated to promoting judo for over 25 years.
With a membership of about 300, the club has successfully trained players ranging from novices to black belts and has even produced British champions. This achievement underscores John’s commitment to developing judo talent at all levels.
Judo, an Olympic combat sport originating from 1882 by Jigoro Kano, combines martial arts and self-defence techniques. It involves full-contact fighting with throws and grappling manoeuvres. The sport has gained popularity worldwide and is known for its physical and mental benefits.
John believes that people come to the Westcroft Judo Club for various reasons, including competition, fitness, and social interaction. Regular judo practise enhances coordination, agility, balance, speed, and strength. It also teaches discipline, confidence, and respect, providing proven self-defence skills and improved communication abilities.
Feedback from the parents of judoka in the club has been overwhelmingly positive. One family noted significant improvements in their son's confidence, coordination, and skills. They praised the fun and well-organised sessions, which have helped their child develop valuable life skills.
Inclusivity is a core value at Westcroft Judo Club. John ensures that the club welcomes individuals of all ages, genders, shapes, and sizes. The club offers classes grouped by age and ability, starting from age 5, ensuring everyone receives appropriate training and support.
Located at Carshalton Boys Sports College on Muschamp Road, the club boasts a dedicated dojo for judo training. The club’s website provides detailed information about class timings, venues, and services such as attire, grading, competitions, and national governing body membership.
As an affiliated club of the British Judo Association (BJA), Westcroft Judo Club upholds high standards in line with international and Olympic regulations. BJA membership is mandatory for all participants, ensuring a professional and safe environment.
The coaching team, comprised of experienced and qualified instructors, shares their passion and expertise with all members. This dedication ensures that everyone at the club receives proper guidance on their judo journey.
John Smith is proud of what Westcroft Judo Club represents—a respected community in Carshalton offering a platform for growth, camaraderie, and excellence in judo. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced judoka, the Westcroft Judo Club is here to support your journey.
Thank you for being part of this remarkable journey.
Best regards,
Westcroft Judo Club Organiser
