For competitive bowlers, the club participates in several local leagues, including Ossett & Horbury, Wakefield Workshops, and Wakefield Veterans. The club has two teams in the Wakefield Workshops league (Wednesday night) and Ossett & Horbury league (Thursday night), as well as one team in the Saturday and Veterans leagues. New members are always welcomed at West Bretton Bowling Club, regardless of age or ability. The club provides full coaching and all necessary equipment, so prior knowledge or experience is not required. Joining the club is easy. The annual membership fee is currently 30. If you wish to join one of the teams, registration with the British Crown Green Bowling Association is necessary, or you can complete an application form if you do not already have a registration number.
The history of West Bretton Bowling Club dates back to 1925 when the bowling green was first laid out on land owned by the Bretton Memorial Institute Charity. Crown green bowling has been played in West Bretton for almost 100 years, with continuous play since 1974.
West Bretton Bowling Club is known as one of the friendliest crown green bowling clubs in Yorkshire. It is situated in the picturesque village of West Bretton, which is also home to the famous Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
