About
Wellington Goju Ryu Karate, nestled in Wellington, is more than just a karate school; it's a training ground for champions. Led by the seasoned Sensei Rajesh Ravji, a Nanadan (7th Dan) black belt with over 40 years of experience, students are in expert hands. Sensei Rajesh has not only represented New Zealand on the international stage, but he’s also clinched notable achievements like 5th place at the 1989 Goju Ryu World Championships and a bronze at the 1990 Oceania Karate Championship.
At Wellington Goju Ryu Karate, training is tailored for everyone. On Mondays and Wednesdays, the schedule kicks off with kids and beginners from 6:00 pm to 6:40 pm, followed by intermediates from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm, and senior grades from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Remember, the last Monday of each month is hojo undo (conditioning) training for adults, and no children’s classes are held on that day.
The club, affiliated with the International Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate-do Federation, puts a premium on traditional values over commercial gains, keeping fees low to make training accessible. Students benefit from the expertise of internationally trained instructors, ensuring they receive top-notch guidance.
Whether you're looking to boost your fitness, learn self-defence, or compete at a high level, Wellington Goju Ryu Karate offers the environment to reach your goals. With a focus on holistic growth, both physically and mentally, it's not just about karate—it's about developing confidence and character in a supportive community. Ready to train under the best?
