Sensitive areas are all utilised within the style. However, the emphasis is always on controlling and neutralising the attacker rather than causing unnecessary harm.
At Waregachi Ju Jitsu Kai, we pride ourselves on creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Our club is primarily made up of adults, many of whom are parents, hence the affectionate nickname “Dads Army”. This gives our club a unique dynamic where members can train and learn together while also building friendships and a sense of community.
Our founder, Kyoshi Mike Johnson, was a highly respected figure in the martial arts world. He dedicated over forty years to studying and teaching various styles of martial arts before settling on Ju Jitsu as his chosen discipline. His innovative approach to teaching and dedication to practical self-defence sets our club apart from others. Inspired by his experiences and belief that no one system is infallible, Kyoshi Johnson created Go-no-Sen Ryu, a blend of Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu and Juko-ryu ju-jitsu, with influences from other disciplines as well.
The philosophy of Waregachi Ju Jitsu Kai is rooted in practicality and effectiveness. Every technique taught is carefully evaluated and tested to ensure its applicability in real-life situations. Techniques that may look impressive in the dojo but lack practicality are discarded. Kyoshi Johnson often said, “I'll steal a good technique from anyone”, highlighting his willingness to learn and adapt from various sources to provide the best training experience for his students.
Go-no-Sen Ryu focuses on defensive tactics, utilising the attacker's own movements and positions against them. Rather than preemptively attacking, our style emphasises closing the distance and controlling the opponent through manipulation of their extended positions. This approach limits the opponent's ability to launch further attacks and gives the defender an advantageous position. Techniques such as striking, kicking, throws, joint locks, nerve strikes, gouging, biting, and strikes to sensitive areas are all incorporated into our training.
However, the primary goal is always to neutralise the threat without causing unnecessary harm.
Whether you are interested in learning self-defence, improving your physical fitness, or simply engaging in a new hobby, Waregachi Ju Jitsu Kai welcomes individuals of all abilities and ages.
