About

The Wandana Community Centre Walking Group is a sports club located in Adelaide, Australia. Their primary focus is on promoting healthy living and building connexions within the community through group walks.

The club recognises the many benefits of walking and encourages individuals of all ages and fitness levels to join their walking groups. Walking for as little as 30 minutes a day has been proven to lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes by 30 to 40 percent. It can also help manage weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol, reduce the risk of certain cancers, maintain bone density, improve balance and coordination, and reduce the risk of falls and other injuries.

To assist members in achieving their health and fitness goals, the Wandana Community Centre Walking Group offers free Personal Walking Plans. These plans aim to help individuals feel healthier and happier within just six weeks.

The club welcomes healthcare professionals to refer their patients to their structured and supportive walking programme, which complements the care they provide. Whether individuals prefer to walk alone or in a group, the motivational programme is designed to assist them in meeting national physical activity guidelines.

Members of the Wandana Community Centre Walking Group have experienced positive changes in their health and well-being. Maria, a group walker, shares her inspiring story of how walking has helped her overcome weight issues, diabetes, and blood pressure problems. Through consistent walking, she was able to reverse her diabetes and no longer had any issues with her blood pressure.

Getting started with the club is easy. Individuals can search for a walking group near their area, either by suburb, town, or postcode. After registering for a group, they will receive all the necessary information from the Walk Organiser to begin their walking journey. Being part of the walking community provides a supportive environment for individuals to improve their physical and mental health.

The Wandana Community Centre Walking Group also recognises the contributions made by their Walk Organisers. These individuals are the backbone of the programme and are responsible for planning walking routes, determining meeting places, and welcoming new members. Walk Organisers are encouraged to lead Heart Foundation Walks and can join the Walker Recognition Scheme to be rewarded for their efforts.

For those interested in taking on a leadership role within the club, they can become a Volunteer Walk Organiser. By signing up, they will receive training, access to their online profile to manage their group, ongoing communications, and invites to events and workshops.

The Wandana Community Centre Walking Group welcomes individuals over the age of 18 who are looking to improve their health and join a supportive community. They believe that every step taken is a step away from heart disease, and they strive to make walking an enjoyable and rewarding experience for all members.
