Salisbury Rugby Football Club is excited to promote its upcoming Rugby Union event, specifically tailored for those interested in playing Walking Rugby. This unique game offers a competitive yet non-contact experience, where tackles are made by a two-handed touch. In Walking Rugby, the focus is on strategy and tactics rather than physicality, making it suitable for men and women of all ages.
Joining our club is a fantastic way to stay fit and active while enjoying the game of rugby. Whether you're a seasoned player or new to the sport, our training sessions and matches are designed to cater to everyone's needs. Each game consists of two halves, each lasting 7 minutes, and competitions are typically held in a festival format with multiple games played throughout an afternoon.
Our training sessions take place at Salisbury Rugby Club every Thursday from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. During the winter months, we may move indoors when suitable facilities are available. These sessions begin with warm-up exercises and rugby skills before transitioning into exciting games. As a club, we also organise joint training sessions with other Walking Rugby Clubs. For those looking for a more relaxed session, we offer Tuesday mornings where we simply play a series of games from 10:30am to 11:30am.
Throughout the year, we actively participate in evening and Saturday matches. In the summer, we aim to take part in various festivals, including our very own event held at the end of April. It's a wonderful opportunity to showcase our skills and enjoy the camaraderie of the Walking Rugby community. Additionally, we arrange fixtures against other Walking Rugby clubs on Thursday evenings.
Salisbury Walking Rugby Club was established in January 2017 and has played a crucial role as one of the founding Walking Rugby Clubs in the South West. We take immense pride in being an integral part of Salisbury Rugby Football Club, aligning ourselves with their core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline, and sportsmanship. To fully embrace the spirit of the game, we encourage all interested individuals to familiarise themselves with the laws of walking rugby, which can be found at the provided link.
Whether you're a seasoned player looking for a new challenge or someone who wants to try rugby for the first time, we warmly welcome you to join our friendly group. With a wide range of abilities and experience, our sessions offer an inclusive environment for all. If you decide to participate in fixtures or be part of a festival squad, you will need to become a paid-up member of our club. However, non-members are also welcome to join the Tuesday sessions by paying a pitch fee of £2, which includes after-match tea or coffee.
