Wakefield Squash Club, located within College Grove Sports, has been proudly serving the Wakefield Community for over 50 years. As part of Wakefield Sports Club, which was founded in 1847 and is a well-established sports club in the heart of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, the Squash Club is just one of the five main sectors offered, which also include Bowls, Hockey, Shooting, and Jazz.
Squash, known as “Chess On Legs” by one of the sport's greats, Jonah Barrington, is a fast-paced racket sport played between two players inside a four-walled court using a small rubber ball. It is not only a fantastic workout for cardio and muscular strength, with players burning up to 1,000 calories in a typical 45-minute session, but it also requires fine skills, tactical expertise, and tests physical and mental reactions. This addictive and rewarding activity is open to players of all ages and abilities.
Wakefield Squash Club offers top-notch squash court facilities and provides player coaching in both individual and group sessions. Their coaching team is experienced and dedicated to helping players improve their skills. For more information on coaching and how to book a session, visit their Coaching Page on the club's website.
Playing squash has numerous benefits. According to a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, regularly playing racket sports, including squash, can lower the risk of death from any cause by 47%. It is a sport that offers a comprehensive workout, promotes cardiovascular health, builds muscular strength, and enhances mental agility.
Booking a court at Wakefield Squash Club is made easy through their online booking system. To access the system, you must have a valid membership ID and password. Court fees apply, as well as fees for activating the lights. However, to ensure fairness, it is common practise for one member to book the court while another activates the lights upon arrival.
This way, both players share the cost of the session.
Upon joining Wakefield Squash Club as an active member, you will receive two fobs. One fob grants access to the building by placing it on the Door Access Control pad, while the second fob is used to activate the lights for the chosen court. Instructions on how to use the fobs and activate the lights will be given during your induction.
