Waitemata Table Tennis Stadium, located at 72a Seymour Road in Sunnyvale, Auckland, is the premier table tennis club in West Auckland and home to New Zealand's highest-ranking male players. This purpose-built, international standard stadium is nestled inside Parr's Park, offering members and visitors a top-notch facility to practise and compete.
Becoming a member of the Waitemata Table Tennis Association (WTTA) not only grants access to the stadium but also provides various benefits. Members have the opportunity to represent Waitemata in team events, participate in the Waitemata Closed and Open tournaments, and take part in New Zealand Table Tennis (TTNZ) affiliated tournaments, such as the North Shore Open, Veteran Nationals, and Junior Nationals. While membership is not mandatory to access the stadium, WTTA members do receive a discounted rate for sessions or casual table hire.
The annual membership fees for 2023 are $20 for juniors and retirees, and $40 for seniors. To join, interested individuals can visit wtta. Helloclub. Com and sign up.
Membership is valid for 12 months from the date of joining.
To ensure smooth access to the stadium, WTTA offers a Swipe Tag programme. Swipe Tag members can enter the Waitemata Table Tennis stadium from 9am to 9pm. If a member brings a non-Swipe Tag visitor, a charge of $10 per hour is applied. It's important to note that the gate on the road outside the stadium is closed by the Council at 9:30pm, and a call-out fee is charged if a member needs assistance due to their car being stuck.
The stadium also offers various session fees, catering to different age groups and interests. Day club sessions are available for $5 for members and $10 for non-members, while Seniors' casual club sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 7pm cost $7 for members and $10 for non-members. Swipe Tag members can enjoy free entry to these sessions. Additionally, adult and junior coaching sessions are available for $10 for members and $15 for non-members, with free entry for Swipe Tag members.
Wednesday teams sessions at 7pm cost $7 for members and $10 for non-members, but Swipe Tag members can participate for free. For those looking to casually hire a table, the fee is $10 per hour per person, while Swipe Tag members can enjoy free table hire with the requirement of two members to turn on the lights.
The club is run by a dedicated executive committee, led by Andrew Palmer as President, Rodney Bygrave as Secretary, and Tim Li as Treasurer. The committee also consists of other members such as Alfred Dela-Pena, Wing Poon, Jackson Bray-Taylor, and Judy Hinton. There are also subcommittees for tournaments and schools, stadium maintenance, stadium management, and membership management.
At Waitemata Table Tennis Stadium, players of all ages and skill levels can come together to enjoy the sport and improve their game. With a state-of-the-art facility and a supportive community, this club is committed to promoting table tennis in Auckland's Waitemata region.
