Waimairi Surf Lifesaving Club, founded in 1949, is a volunteer-driven surf lifesaving club situated at the corner of Beach Rd and Marine Parade in Christchurch. It’s the northernmost beach patrol spot in Christchurch City, dedicated to keeping Waimairi Beach safe.
Headed by dedicated volunteers, the club runs lifeguard patrols every Saturday and Sunday throughout the summer. With a team of 90 well-trained lifeguards, the club is committed to keeping beachgoers safe. Last summer, they performed one rescue and took over 2500 preventative steps to reduce risks.
The club boasts a lively and active membership, especially in the junior category for kids aged 7 to 13 and above. It also offers a competitive training squad for surf sports, where members can hone their skills and compete in surf competitions at both local and national levels.
A point of pride for the Waimairi Surf Lifesaving Club is their history of no drowning deaths within their patrolled area. Consistently excelling in patrol efficiency tests and performing well in various carnivals reflects the dedication and teamwork of the Waimairi lifeguards.
Support from sponsors and the community is crucial for the club. They deeply appreciate the backing of Seventhwave Wetsuits, with donations from individuals and businesses ensuring the club can continue its life-saving efforts.
