The Wado Bugei Karate do Association in Spruce Grove, led by Sensei Sean Bowen, offers a range of programs for individuals of all ages and abilities. Sensei Bowen is a 6th Degree black belt and a certified instructor with the World Congress of the Shintani Wado Kai and World Shintani Shindo. The adult karate classes focus on challenging workouts that discipline the mind and strengthen the body, emphasizing honour and respect for the traditional Wado Kai style of karate. Classes include kata (patterns defending against imaginary opponents), kumite (fighting), and waza (technique), allowing students to improve at their own pace.
For children and families, the Karate for Families program is designed to enhance community unity and improve self-confidence and self-esteem. Children and parents can enrol together to learn the true aspects of traditional Wado Kai Karate. The program includes training in kata, kumite, and waza, with classes led by Sensei Sean Bowen. Each student is placed in a mixed-level class to ensure safe and structured progress.
