About

Victoria Bridge Club is a well-established and welcoming bridge club located in the heart of Wellington. Since opening its doors in 1954, the club has provided a warm and inviting environment for bridge players in the greater Wellington region. Conveniently located at 112 Tinakori Road, Thorndon, the Victoria Bridge Club welcomes both new and existing members to come and enjoy a game of bridge in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

The club takes pride in its diverse membership, comprising players of all skill levels and experience. Whether you are a seasoned player or just starting your bridge journey, you will find a suitable session at Victoria Bridge Club. The club offers various playing times and grades throughout the week to accommodate different skill levels and preferences.

Monday evenings are dedicated to intermediate players who have passed the beginners stage and are looking to improve their game. Players on this night adhere to Intermediate Tournament rules. Tuesday evenings are open to both intermediate and more experienced players, with a minimum requirement of 100 masterpoints, including 50 A points.

For those who are new to bridge or have recently completed beginner lessons, Wednesday evenings provide a supportive environment for beginners and juniors. Throughout the year, Wednesdays may also feature coaching nights to further enhance skills and knowledge.

Thursday afternoons and evenings are open sessions for players of all levels and grades, offering a chance for players to enjoy a game in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. The Thursday evening team event, known as the Gladys Palmer Teams of Four, is a year-long championship that encourages players from all levels to participate. The event is scored on both a championship and a handicap basis, providing an equal playing field for all participants.

In addition to regular playing sessions, Victoria Bridge Club offers beginner lessons on Wednesday evenings. The 12-week series provides comprehensive instruction over approximately 2 hours per lesson, allowing new players to develop their skills in a structured and supportive environment. At the end of the series, participants have the opportunity to join regular Wednesday evening junior sessions for further practise and development.

For those in need of a venue to host their next event, Victoria Bridge Club offers ample space and a large kitchen. Located just a stones throw away from Wellington CBD, the club is a convenient and versatile option for various functions and gatherings.

Victoria Bridge Club also hosts a range of tournaments throughout the year, providing opportunities for players to compete and showcase their skills. Information on upcoming tournaments and registration details can be found on the club's website or by contacting the office.
