Beckenham Sports Club, located in Beckenham, is proud to host the longstanding Vets Football event at Foxgrove. Since its inception in 2001, this local activity has been a highlight for football enthusiasts in the area.
The Football Section at Beckenham Sports Club had humble beginnings when the General Committee decided to allow football to be played on the ground. The teams initially emerged from the Langley Court site, where football had been thriving since the 1920s. The predecessor of the Veterans teams, Wellcome Sports FC, boasted multiple sides in both Saturday and Sunday leagues, along with a Veterans XI and a Super Vets XI.
In 1995, when GSK took over The Wellcome Foundation, the decision was made to phase out sports at the Beckenham site. Consequently, the football sides relocated to different grounds until finally finding their home at Foxgrove. The Section warmly welcomed Catford Exiles Veterans in 2005, a team formed by former Catford Wanderers players after a minor dispute.
As part of the Centenary year, the Section has exciting plans to revive early 'friendlies' against the rest of the Club. Moreover, in the 2017/18 season, Orpington Vets joined the fold and now host their home games at Foxgrove on Sunday mornings.
Football at Foxgrove is an inclusive event, open to all members over the age of 35 (veterans) or for those over 45 (super vets). We believe that age should never be a barrier when it comes to enjoying the beautiful game. Regardless of your age, whether you're in your thirties or even your sixties, we welcome you to join us on the pitch.
