Urban Line Dance has a rich history in Fareham, dating back to 2012 when Ray Hodson founded the school. Starting with an Absolute Beginner class on Monday evenings at Ranvilles Community Centre, the school grew rapidly. In subsequent years, Beginner and Improver classes were introduced on Wednesday evenings at Fareham Academy and Thursday mornings at Stubbington Methodist Church Hall, respectively. In 2017, Brenda took over the Wednesday Beginner class and the first session of the Thursday class, exclusively for Beginners.
Eventually, Brenda took over all the classes when Ray decided to step down in 2018, and has been successfully managing them ever since. While COVID-19 disruptions temporarily halted in-person classes, the use of Zoom allowed dancers to continue their practise remotely. However, Brenda admits the virtual experience lacks the same energy as dancing in a physical space alongside fellow enthusiasts. As restrictions have eased, Brenda has adjusted class schedules and even added a Tuesday morning overflow class to accommodate the growing number of participants.
Overall, Urban Line Dance in Fareham offers a warm and inclusive environment where dancers can learn, grow, and connect with others who share their passion for line dancing. Whether one is a complete novice or an experienced dancer, Urban Line Dance provides a vibrant community and a chance to embrace the joy of movement.
