The academy offers a wide range of classes suitable for children, teens, and adults of all ages. The welcoming and friendly atmosphere promotes a relaxed learning environment where students can strive to achieve their martial arts and self-defence goals.
The academy takes pride in its team of highly experienced instructors who are dedicated to providing top-notch training. More details about each instructor can be found on the Instructors sub-page on the About Hapkido page of the academy's website.
While martial arts and self-defence training are the primary focus, Upper Hutt Martial Arts Academy goes beyond that. The academy aims to provide a holistic approach to personal development and growth. The academy invites individuals and families to be a part of their community and join them on their martial arts journey.
All classes take place at the modern and fully equipped martial arts studio owned by the academy. Located conveniently in the centre of Upper Hutt, it provides a conducive learning environment where students can thrive.
The core classes offered at Upper Hutt Martial Arts Academy include Hapkido for Adults and Teens, Hapkido Tigers for Children aged 7 to 12, and Hapkido Dragons for Children aged 5 to 6. The Hapkido classes not only focus on self-defence but also contribute to improving physical abilities such as stamina, strength, and flexibility. Additionally, they enhance mental awareness and self-confidence.
Hapkido Tigers is specifically designed to help children develop into strong and confident adults. Alongside self-defence skills, children also learn essential life and leadership skills in this programme.
Hapkido Dragons, on the other hand, is tailored for children aged 5 to 6. The class concentrates on fitness and martial arts fundamentals, acting as a foundation for more formal martial arts training in the Hapkido Tigers class.
To complement Hapkido training, Upper Hutt Martial Arts Academy offers additional classes such as “Ground Combatives,” “Pressure Point Combatives,” and “Principals of the Sword. ” These classes allow students to delve deeper into specific areas that are only briefly covered in the main Hapkido syllabus. Students can join these classes once they meet the relevant grade requirement in Hapkido.
Upper Hutt Martial Arts Academy returns for the 2024 training year on Monday, 8th January. January is an excellent time to start training as class sizes tend to be smaller with a higher ratio of instructors to students. This offers more personalised attention and one-on-one time with instructors. The academy welcomes students of all ages, starting from 5 years old and upwards.
Upper Hutt Martial Arts Academy has garnered recognition, having been awarded the ActiveActivities Most Popular 2022 Award for being one of the top 25 activities for kids in Upper Hutt in 2022.
