UNSW Karate Club

The UNSW Budokan Karate Club is a renowned and long-standing martial arts club located at the University of New South Wales in Australia. Established many years ago, it has become one of the oldest and most successful university karate clubs in the country. The club welcomes both UNSW students and members of the public, making it a fantastic opportunity for individuals to learn and practise the art of karate.

The club offers training sessions twice a week, every Tuesday and Thursday. Sessions take place at the UNSW Fitness & Aquatic Centre, providing a convenient and accessible location for participants. Tuesday sessions start at 7 pm and run until 9 pm in the popular Courtside Studio. On Thursdays, training takes place in the Judo Room, also from 7 pm to 9 pm.

For those interested in joining the UNSW Karate Club, the club offers a free trial lesson to help individuals determine if karate is the right fit for them. There are no obligations or commitments attached to the trial, simply an opportunity to experience the training and atmosphere of the club firsthand. The UNSW Karate Club has recently announced the resumption of regular training sessions. Starting from the 9th of February 2021, the club will be offering its training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays as previously mentioned. Due to the current circumstances, participants are required to register for a training session through the Appointy system, ensuring that the number of participants is managed to maintain safe distancing. Temperature checks will be conducted upon arrival, and advance booking is recommended due to limited availability.

Unfortunately, the club has had to put membership on hold until further notice. The closure of the Unigym due to changes in ownership has impacted the club's operations. The club is actively monitoring the situation and will update members as soon as there are changes or developments.

During these uncertain times, the UNSW Karate Club acknowledges the financial strain some individuals may be facing and provides options for those who have already paid fees. Expiry dates for 10-class passes will be extended to accommodate the duration of training suspension. Refunds are also available upon request, and those who choose to return to training after the suspension can pay for fees anew.
