Located at the University of Newcastle's Central Coast campus, the Exercise Physiology Clinic is a sports club that offers high-quality, low-cost care to the local community. It also serves as a training facility for postgraduate students completing the Master of Exercise Physiology programme. The clinic's main goal is to provide affordable and evidence-based treatment for a range of health conditions, injuries, and disabilities. Moreover, they offer injury prevention, performance programmes, and general health and wellness advice.
The University of Newcastle Exercise Physiology Clinic offers a variety of services to meet the needs of its clients. These services include initial assessments, where a clinical history, physical and biopsychosocial assessment, and goal setting are conducted. Standard consultations involve exercise delivery, reassessment, and review of goals, home exercise programmes, self-management strategies, and education. Group consultations involve group exercises, education, home programmes, and self-management strategies.
Additionally, the clinic provides speciality tests and assessments such as body composition, aerobic capacity, and musculoskeletal assessments. They also offer periodized self-managed programmes that can be completed independently over a 6, 12, 18, or 24-week period. For those unable to attend face-to-face consultations, the clinic also offers telehealth consultations via Zoom.
The clinic's services are provided by Accredited Exercise Physiologists, who accept Medicare CDM (bulk billed), DVA white and gold card holders, NDIS self-managed plans, Workers Compensation, and some Private Health Insurance funds (dependent on individual policy). While students are able to work with private clients, all third-party funded clients will be seen by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.
