Universal Judo Academies Wallasey is a well-known judo club in Wallasey, UK. The club offers Judo classes on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. and Monday evenings at 8 p.m., led by Jay Thompson, a 3rd Dan Judo Instructor - or as he's known around here, Judo Jay.

Jay welcomes students of all ages, currently anyone aged 8 and up, but if there's demand, they might add a class for the younger ones too. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a beginner or have been practising for years; there's a spot for everyone.

For those who don’t know, Judo came from Tokyo, Japan, in the late 19th century, created by Professor Jigoro Kano. It distils Jujutsu techniques to make it safely practisable at full force. Judo’s about efficiency and mutual welfare, so anyone can give it a go regardless of size, strength, or gender.

Jay and the team teach more than just self-defence. You'll also pick up problem-solving skills that are handy in all aspects of life. The syllabus is quite broad, including fitness training (Tai So), techniques (Waza), free practice (Randori), competition (Shiai), demonstrations (Kata), and self-defence (Goshin Jutsu).
