Underriver Cricket Club, established in 1800, holds the distinction of being one of the oldest cricket clubs in Kent. It is believed to have originated from the Underriver House team. Nestled in the picturesque Underriver, the club boasts an excellent pitch, outfield, and recently refurbished pavilion.
The Club extends a warm welcome to players of all standards and ages, ensuring that new players are always greeted with enthusiasm. Underriver Cricket Club takes pride in its renowned home teas, which are highly regarded for their excellence. Tea time is an integral part of the club's tradition and provides an opportunity for players and supporters to socialise and bond.
Apart from a full calendar of matches, with League games on Saturdays and Friendly games on Sundays, the club also organises an annual tour. Additionally, social events such as the annual dinner, quiz nights, and vice-presidents' lunch are held throughout the season, fostering a sense of camaraderie and community spirit.
Having joined the Kent County Village League in 2011, the club has steadily climbed the divisions and will be competing in Division 5 for the 2024 season. The league fixtures feature exciting clashes against Bidborough 2nds, Farningham 2nds, Meopham, Sennocke, Shoreham & Otford 2nds, Groombridge, Eynsford 2nds, and Southborough 2nds.
Underriver Cricket Club also has a rich history of playing Sunday Friendly matches, dating back to the late 1800s. Legend has it that teams from all over the country would travel to play at the “best boutique ground under the river. ” The club's afternoon teas have become famous, with treasurer Chris Close proclaiming them as the best in the county.
The Underriver Village Association provides incredible support to the club, fostering a strong partnership that contributes to the celebration and growth of everything Underriver represents.
