UK China Performing Arts (UKCPA), founded in London, England in 2017, is a renowned dance academy that specialises in Chinese classical and folk dance. In addition to Chinese dance, UKCPA also offers education in ISTD Ballet, Jazz, Hip-hop, K-pop, and Ballroom dance, both online and in-studio. As an international artistic exchange platform and performing arts company, UKCPA has established strong relationships with artists and companies from various countries around the world.
UKCPA takes pride in providing professional performance services and collaborations with prestigious theatres, media partners, and event organisers. Notable collaborations include Lebanon Caracalla Dance Theatre with the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation and Netflix on the high-profile production of The Crown. UKCPA has also successfully hosted events such as exchanges to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Chinese Culture and Arts Festival, as well as masterclasses like the Chinese Family Day, the Childrens Creative Dance Masterclass, and the Drama Workshop.
As an official UK subsidiary of CFA (Chinese Folk Dance Association), UKCPA offers teacher and student training using the Chinese Folk Dance syllabus recognised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Peoples Republic of China. UKCPA believes in providing opportunities for all individuals who love dance, offering professional training methods that cater to all levels, from absolute beginners to professionals, and for all ages, starting from 3 years old.
The UKCPA team is led by Hangyu (Joanna) Zhou, the Artistic Director of UKCPA. Hangyu Zhou is not only the founder of UKCPA but also an examiner of the Beijing Chinese Ethnic Folk Dancers Association and a qualified Ballet teacher from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD). She graduated from Beijing Dance Academy with a BA in Classical Chinese Dance and completed her MA in Dance Studies at the University of Roehampton. Hangyu Zhou has received numerous accolades throughout her career, including silver and bronze awards in national and regional dance competitions.
With over 30 years of dancing, teaching, and choreography experience, Hangyu Zhou is dedicated to showcasing the charm of Chinese dance in the UK and introducing Chinese dance to dance enthusiasts worldwide.
Another valuable member of the UKCPA team is Jiayi Fan, a Chinese Dance Teacher. Ms. Jiayi is a highly skilled dance teacher and choreographer with a strong background in Chinese and modern dance. She holds a BA in Chinese Dance Performance from the School of Dance at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, where she received scholarships for three consecutive years.
Jiayi also represented her school on numerous cultural exchange trips. Further honing her skills, Jiayi earned her MFA in Dance Choreography from the University of Roehampton. Known for her strong foundation in dance, Jiayi is admired for her teaching and choreography abilities.
