UCL Kendo Club is a martial arts club based in London, offering training sessions and opportunities for individuals interested in the Japanese martial art of kendo. Kendo is derived from the traditional swordsmanship techniques of the samurai and involves striking various targets on an armoured opponent using a bamboo sword. UCL Kendo Club has three main training sessions throughout the week. Beginners practise is held on Wednesdays from 14:30-16:00 at the Mandela Studio in Bloomsbury Fitness. Mixed practise, suitable for all experience levels, takes place on Sundays from 14:00-16:00 at the same location. Experienced armoured practise is available on Fridays from 19:00-21:00 at the City of London Academy Highbury Grove.
Membership options are available at different tiers. The Taster membership is free and gives access to taster sessions and the club's mailing list. The Beginner membership, priced at 27, includes access to beginner practise sessions at a cost of 3 per session and in-person social events throughout the academic year. The Experienced membership, priced at 32, grants access to armoured practise at a discounted rate of 4 per session for students and 7 for alumni, as well as participation in in-person social events.
UCL Kendo Club also welcomes non-UCL guests and provides more details upon email inquiry. The club is proud to be Pride in Sport Accredited, promoting inclusivity and diversity within the sporting community.
