The North Bay Canoe Club's U10/U12/U14 Sprint Canoe Kayak Racing event is the perfect opportunity for kids aged 8 to 13 to dive into the exciting world of water sports. From Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, young athletes will get the chance to try their hand at canoeing, kayaking, team boat training, and dryland exercises. Whether they're new to the sport or seasoned veterans, participants can look forward to daily water practices, running, soccer, outdoor games, and strength training. Safety comes first, with essential water safety rules, balance techniques, and racing skills taught to all paddlers. Each session includes warm-ups, workouts, and cool-down periods to ensure fitness and performance levels are at their best. The program does have a competitive edge, but youngsters have the option to participate in regattas at their own discretion. While U10 athletes can join in if they choose, U12 and U14 athletes generally compete in local and regional events in North Bay, with U14 athletes having opportunities to progress to U16 competitions in Ontario and National Championships. Parents can pick between full-day or half-day programs to suit their child's schedule and interests, with fees ranging from $400 to $1300 based on participation duration and frequency. The club's goal is to deliver a comprehensive training experience that focuses on skill enhancement, fitness, and enjoyment in a secure and encouraging setting.
