Every Wednesday evening, Townsville Yacht Club (TYC) hosts a social Twilight Sail in the serene waters of Cleveland Bay. Skippers and crew members come together for a friendly race around fixed marks in the bay. This engaging activity attracts both competitive sailors and those looking for some leisurely racing, making it the perfect mid-week escape.
The race kicks off with a staggered start, also known as a pursuit-style start, where slower boats set off first, aiming to finish alongside the rest of the fleet within a short span of time. After each Twilight Sail, there is a presentation to celebrate the winners and draw the lucky winner of the Wednesday night members draw.
If you're interested in becoming a crew member or if you've always wanted to learn how to sail, Twilight Sailing is an incredible opportunity to connect with experienced skippers and crew members while immersing yourself in the world of sailing. The TYC Sailing Committee requires all skippers and boat owners who wish to take part in organised events to register their vessel through the reliable Race Management system, SailSys. If you're a new boat owner or if you haven't registered your boat before, worry not! You can easily create an account on the SailSys website.
Depending on your circumstances, there are different options for crew registration. Visitors to the Townsville Yacht Club can purchase a SailPass, valued at $15 per Twilight Sail, which can be arranged directly at the club with the help of our friendly staff. On the other hand, club members or regular crew members serving as guests of skippers need to be added to the boat's 'Crew List' in SailSys for safety purposes.
For those considering a SailPass Membership, it allows you to sail a specific number of times before committing to an annual membership. The best part is that any money you spend on the Sail Pass Membership will be credited towards your annual subscription fee should you decide to become a proud member of the Townsville Yacht Club. SailPass ensures peace of mind for both you and your skipper, making it a convenient option for non-TYC Sailing Members who are eager to set sail.
