The Tukino Ski Patrol is a dedicated group of volunteers from Aorangi, Desert Alpine, and Tukino Alpine Sports Clubs, who work tirelessly to ensure the smooth and safe operation of the Tukino Skifield. Calling all ski enthusiasts and interested individuals, if you want to be part of this amazing team, now is your chance!
To become a Tukino Ski Patroller, all you need to do is be a member of one of the three clubs at Tukino. Once you're in, you will be placed on a roster managed by the Volunteer Ski Patrol Coordinator. Your main responsibilities will include ensuring the safety of the mountain and providing assistance to fellow skiers and snowboarders.
Of course, safety is our top priority, so regular training sessions are conducted to help you sharpen your patrol skills. It's essential that you have your own ski or snowboard equipment and appropriate cold/wet weather clothing because we want to make sure you're comfortable out there on the slopes.
Joining the Tukino Ski Patrol also opens up a world of opportunities for you to gain higher qualifications and valuable experience in the Snowsport Industry. While there is no financial compensation for patrolling at Tukino, our patrollers receive some fantastic benefits, such as exemption from tow fees, accommodation, and meals when rostered for a weekend on the mountain. It's our way of saying thank you for your dedication and hard work.
To ensure that our patrollers are always prepared, we conduct regular on-field training and exercises to ensure everyone is familiar with their duties, equipment, and emergency procedures at Tukino. We also offer formal training to help you enhance your skills and obtain Snowsport qualifications, such as Basic Emergency Care, New Zealand Certificate in Snowsport Patrol, and New Zealand Certificate in Avalanche Risk Management. These certifications will not only boost your confidence but also make you a valuable asset to any ski resort.
If you're interested in joining the Tukino Ski Patrol or returning as a patroller, we invite you to attend our upcoming Training and Selection Weekend. This exciting event will take place from June 28 to 30, 2024, with optional training sessions leading up to it. However, please note that positions are limited, so to secure your spot, make sure to register your interest by June 14, 2024.
