Trillium Park, located at 600 National Avenue in Vancouver, is a vibrant recreational space that offers something for everyone. Spanning over 3 hectares, the park is divided into two main areas. The south end features two synthetic turf fields that are used for field hockey, soccer, and ultimate, with a perimeter walking path. These fields are well-lit and are popular among the local community as well as for tournaments.
On the north end of the park, visitors can find a playground, amphitheatre, lawn area, meadows, rain gardens, community plaza, covered multi-use park shelter, and harvest bench. This area serves as a venue for neighbourhood events and provides space for art and environmental education. Some parts of Trillium Park North, such as the meadows and rain gardens, have been naturalized to promote environmental sustainability. These areas are not manicured and support a diversity of plants, including native species that attract pollinators and offer educational opportunities for visitors.
The history of Trillium Park dates back to the 1930s when the site was originally tidal mud flats that were later filled in and used as a railway yard. In the 1990s, the area was purchased for park purposes and underwent a major transformation. A master plan was developed, leading to the construction of two synthetic sports fields and a passive park on the north end. After years of environmental remediation and preloading, the synthetic sports fields were completed in 2010, with washrooms and change rooms following in 2011.
The northern portion of the park was finished in 2014, marking the completion of the park's development.
With its diverse recreational facilities and commitment to environmental sustainability, Trillium Park is a welcoming destination for visitors of all ages. Whether you're looking to enjoy a game of soccer, explore naturalized areas, or attend a community event, Trillium Park has something for everyone to enjoy.
