Towcester Aikido Club, under the leadership of Sensei Mike Smith, has been a cornerstone of traditional Aikido in the UK since 1973. Embracing the principles of Takemusu Iwama Aikido, this club goes beyond mere martial skills. Aikido, a Japanese Martial Art developed in the 1920s by Morihei Ueshiba, emphasises spherical movements and uses an attacker's force to execute joint locks and throws.
What sets Aikido apart is its non-competitive nature. It's not about size or strength but harnessing "Ki” or internal energy. Towcester Aikido Club honours these tenets, incorporating traditional Japanese weapons training inspired by Saito Sensei from the Iwama Dojo.
Weekly adult classes are held every Thursday from 8:15 pm to 10:15 pm at the Towcester Sports & Social Club, conveniently located opposite the Health Centre on Swinneyford Road. Please note the club adheres strictly to its licencing policy as it operates within a Private Members Club.
