To The Start Line Multi-Sport Coaching, located in Claremont, is led by John Hallis, an IRONMAN Certified Coach and an Accredited Triathlon Australia Coach. With a passion for helping athletes achieve their goals, John provides customised one-on-one training programmes tailored to each individual's needs and aspirations. He works with athletes competing in various events, including IRONMAN, Olympic, and sprint distance triathlons, as well as single discipline events.
John's own journey in the triathlon world started in 2010 when he participated in his first ocean swim to raise money for a friend's wife battling breast cancer. At the time, John was over 120 kg, unfit, and lacked confidence in swimming. However, that experience in the water transformed him. It sparked a desire to push himself further and embrace a healthier lifestyle.
From that point on, John became dedicated to participating in ocean swims and began incorporating running and cycling into his routine.
In 2012, John was diagnosed with adult ADHD, a discovery that brought clarity to his struggles and motivated him to use regular exercise as a means of finding balance and structure in his life. Despite initially swearing off longer races, John's love for triathlons grew, and he challenged himself to conquer longer distances. He completed his first IRONMAN 70. 3 event in 5 hours and 52 minutes, but with the guidance of a coach, he achieved a remarkable improvement the following year, finishing in 4 hours and 53 minutes.
This accomplishment fueled his determination to continue his journey.
In 2015, John completed his first full IRONMAN event in Cairns with a time of 11 hours, 38 minutes, which included his longest swim, bike ride, and run to date. He then went on to qualify for the IRONMAN 70. 3 World Championships in 2016 and 2017. However, his ultimate goal was to compete in the renowned IRONMAN World Championships in Kona.
In preparation for the race, he made the decision to give up alcohol in 2018 to ensure he left no stone unturned in his training. This sacrifice paid off when he qualified for Kona in December 2018, and in October 2019, he proudly represented To The Start Line Multi-Sport Coaching in the Ironman World Championships.
With John's personal experience and commitment to his own journey in triathlon, he understands the challenges and triumphs that athletes face. He brings this empathy and expertise to his coaching, providing comprehensive guidance and support to help individuals reach their potential. Whether aiming for a personal best or participating in their first event, John's coaching programmes are designed to help athletes find their own start line and achieve their goals.
