The history of Torbay AC can be traced back to the 1870s when various clubs in Torquay, Paignton, Newton Abbot, and Exmouth engaged in regular foot races. Torbay AC officially formed in 1970 through the amalgamation of Paignton AC and Torquay AAC. Prior to this, Paignton AC and St Marychurch Harriers were dominant forces in the racing scene. The club's headquarters were located at Queen's Park, and later at the Recreation Ground in Torquay, where training took place.
Torbay AC offers various running activities, including road running, cross country racing, and track and field events. The road running section welcomes runners of all abilities, from beginners to international standard athletes. Cross country racing helps build strength and stamina, benefiting athletes in many other athletic events. The club also provides opportunities to participate in a wide range of track and field events, from sprints to steeplechase.
