The chief instructor, Gursharan Sahota, has a wealth of experience and expertise in karate, making him an excellent teacher for beginners and advanced practitioners.
Gursharan Sahota was born in Kenya, East Africa but moved to the UK at a young age. He started practising karate at the age of 14 and achieved his black belt 1st dan (shodan) just four years later. Over the years, he has competed in various kata and kumite events at national and international levels. However, his most significant experience was training in a Japanese dojo under Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa in 1984, which inspired him to devote his life to teaching and practising karate.
In 1981, Gursharan opened his first karate club in Luton/Dunstable, which now serves as the association's headquarters. In 1993, he founded his own association, TISKA (The Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association), which has become one of the largest associations in the UK. Gursharan currently teaches over 35 classes a week in the UK and conducts master classes internationally. He has trained and guided numerous students, helping them achieve black belt standard and beyond.
Apart from his passion for karate, Gursharan is actively involved in charity work. He supports projects in India and helps subsidise trips for surgeons to perform operations on underprivileged children in third-world countries. He is currently funding the construction of a new school. In his personal life, Gursharan resides in Buckinghamshire with his wife and children, who are already showing an interest in karate.
