TISKA Karate Hendon

TISKA Karate Hendon is a renowned martial arts school located in Barnet, North London. Founded by Gursharan Sahota, an 8th Dan black belt, TISKA (The Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association) is one of the largest karate associations in the UK.

Gursharan Sahota, the Chief Instructor, has a rich background in karate. Born in Kenya, East Africa, he moved to the UK at the age of 12. At the age of 14, he started his karate journey at a local club in Bedford and achieved his black belt 1st dan (shodan) just four years later. In 1984, Gursharan fulfilled a lifelong dream by training in a Japanese dojo under the guidance of Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa.

This experience ignited his passion for karate and inspired him to dedicate his life to training and teaching the art.

In 1981, Gursharan opened his first karate club in Luton/Dunstable, which has now become the association's headquarters. In 1993, he established TISKA, his own karate association. Over the years, Gursharan has taught hundreds of students, bringing them to black belt standard and beyond. He still passionately teaches over 35 classes every week in the UK and holds master classes internationally.

Apart from his dedication to karate, Gursharan is also involved in charity work. He helps subsidise trips for surgeons to third-world countries to operate on underprivileged children. He has funded numerous projects in India and is currently contributing to the construction of a new school.
