TISKA Dunstable Club is a Karate club located in Dunstable, New Zealand. With a focus on the Shotokan style of Karate, the club offers classes for beginners as well as advanced students. The club is affiliated with TISKA (The Traditional International Shotokan Karate Association), which is one of the largest Karate associations in the UK.
The Chief Instructor of TISKA Dunstable Club is Gursharan Sahota. Born in Kenya, East Africa, Gursharan moved to the UK at the age of 12. He started practising Karate at the age of 14 in a local Bedford club and earned his black belt 1st dan (shodan) four years later. With his passion for the art, Gursharan went on to achieve an impressive 8th Dan in Karate.
Gursharan's Karate journey took a significant turn in 1984 when he visited Japan and had the opportunity to train in a Japanese dojo under the instruction of Sensei Hirokazu Kanazawa. Inspired by this experience, Gursharan dedicated his future to training and teaching Karate as a way of life. In 1993, he formed his own association, TISKA, which has grown to become one of the largest Karate associations in the UK.
In addition to teaching over 35 classes a week in the UK, Gursharan also conducts master classes internationally. He has trained and guided numerous students, of all ages, to achieve black belt standard and beyond. Furthermore, Gursharan is actively involved in charity work, funding projects in India and subsidising trips for surgeons to third world countries to operate on underprivileged children.
TISKA Dunstable Club is proud to offer a welcoming and inclusive environment for individuals of all ages and abilities to learn and practise Karate. The club regularly holds gradings and events to provide opportunities for students to progress in their training. Their comprehensive syllabus ensures that students are guided from complete beginners to black belt (shodan) level and beyond.
