Welcome to Thurmaston Bowling Club, located in Leicester, New Zealand. Whether you're a seasoned bowler or looking to try out a new hobby, Thurmaston Bowling Club offers a warm welcome to all.
Membership fees at our club are very reasonable, with the first year costing just 20 for new bowlers. This fee includes a 13 capitation fee payable and a one-time 3 admin fee. As a member, you'll have access to our fantastic facilities, which include six outdoor rinks and a licenced bar.
Throughout the year, we host a variety of social events, providing opportunities for members to make new friends and enjoy a vibrant club atmosphere. We also participate in friendly matches with local clubs on Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sunday afternoons, either at our home venue or away.
At Thurmaston Bowling Club, we actively encourage our players to enter competitions at various levels, such as Club, Leicester Parks, County, and National Levels. We provide tuition, help, and guidance to beginners and those looking to improve their skills. We even have specialist bowling equipment, including a bowls wheelchair, available for those with disabilities.
For casual practise and training, we have regular buddie nights on Tuesday evenings from 16:30 to 18:30. You can enjoy a friendly “roll-up” session with club members, practise with our club coach, or simply have a drink and a chat in the club pavilion. We also have loan bowls available, so all you need to bring is your flat shoes.
Bowling isn't just a fun and social activityit also provides numerous health benefits. It has been medically proven that playing bowls improves general health and helps strengthen the immune system. During an average game, you'll bend over 40 times, walk approximately 1,260m, and swing your arm over 40 times to deliver a bowl weighing over 3 pounds!
