The Thunder Bay Yacht Club, founded in August 1945, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting boating on Lake Superior. Located on the north shore of Lake Superior in Thunder Bay, the club boasts a membership of over 220 members and is governed by a board of directors.
The club hosts a variety of social events and races throughout the year, including the SUNORA North-shore Regatta, an annual week-long race-cruise through the islands of Lake Superior's rugged coastline. The club also runs a PHRF-handicapped annual multi-series racing program on Lake Superior, with races catering to keelboat owners of all skill levels.
For those interested in learning to sail, the club offers a New Crew program early in the season, as well as dinghy racing opportunities through Temple Reef Sailing Club. “Sail Thunder Bay”, a dinghy learn-to-sail program for youth and adults, operates throughout the summer from Pier 1 at the Thunder Bay Marina.
With a focus on competitive yet enjoyable racing, the Thunder Bay Yacht Club is a welcoming and inclusive community for boating enthusiasts in Thunder Bay. For further information on how to join, upcoming events, and racing results, please visit the Thunder Bay Yacht Club website.
