John, the organiser, is always thrilled to share updates from Thornaby Chess Club. Based in Stockton-on-Tees, the club spans Thornaby, Ingleby Barwick, Stockton, Eaglescliffe, and Yarm, welcoming chess lovers of all ages and skill levels. They gather every Tuesday from 7pm to 11pm at the Veterans Hub and Bar in the Don War Memorial Museum on Cranworth Street.
John is proud to highlight the club's friendly and inclusive nature, inviting everyone to give chess a go. The members, aged from 8 to 90, show that chess is a game for all generations. Whether you're just starting or have years of experience, Thornaby Chess Club makes everyone feel at home.
Besides their weekly meetings, the club supports the "Chess for All" sessions at Thornaby Central Library every Saturday from 10am to 12pm. These public sessions are a great chance to learn and improve your chess skills. Many young players from these sessions often join Thornaby Chess Club, adding to their highly praised junior section. They even have the Teesside junior champion for under-16s in their ranks!
John is particularly excited about the club's involvement in the Cleveland league with a team just for junior players. This effort to nurture young talent shows their commitment to the future of chess in the community.
If you're keen to learn more or join in one of their sessions, you can visit the club's website or email them at mail@ThornabyChessClub.co.uk. The mission statement and constitution are also available online for those interested in understanding the club's values and objectives.
Thornaby Chess Club, under John's enthusiastic leadership, is a vibrant part of Stockton-on-Tees, offering a welcoming space for chess players of all ages and levels. Whether it's for fun or competition, the club provides a chance to enjoy chess and connect with fellow enthusiasts.
