The Windsor Boys' School Boat Club Boathouse is a prestigious rowing club located in Windsor, New Zealand. As the school's flagship sport, rowing is highly regarded at The Windsor Boys' School, despite it being a state comprehensive school. The club is proud to have produced a host of national champions and international representatives, thanks to its well-qualified and dedicated coaches.
All boys at the school have the opportunity to participate in rowing. The journey begins for them in year 9 with a capsize drill and swim test, followed by the development of sculling skills on the River Thames throughout year 9 and 10. Racing becomes a regular occurrence during the summer months, with the aim of getting as many boys as possible up to a racing standard. From early morning river sessions to 7am gym sessions during the winter, the boys' skills progress rapidly.
As the boys progress into year 11, the training becomes more rigorous, and the possibility of representational honours becomes a real opportunity. The system at The Windsor Boys' School Boat Club is progressive, allowing the boys to develop highly proficient skills and a thorough understanding of the commitment required to perform at a high level as an athlete by the time they reach the 6th Form.
Even for those who do not reach the heights of representing their country, there are still plenty of opportunities to enjoy the benefits of being a rower. The club offers an active racing programme across all year groups, as well as the numerous health benefits that come with maintaining a high level of fitness.
The Windsor Boys' School Boat Club also offers Learn to Row courses during the summer months. These courses serve as an excellent introduction to the sport, allowing individuals to develop basic rowing skills in a supportive and welcoming environment.
With a history spanning over 80 years, The Windsor Boys' School Boat Club has become an integral part of the school community. The club's achievements, dedication to excellence, and commitment to promoting the sport of rowing make it a notable presence in Windsor.
