Hey sports community! 🏅 Louise, who organises everything here, has a little update for you.
The Rock Cheltenham is doing amazing things right here in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Louise and her team have been working hard ever since front-line youth services took a step back. Given a new lease of life with the old St Peter's church and its grounds, thanks to the Gloucester Diocese, The Rock left the ground running.
Over the years, Louise has connected The Rock with 13 schools and various agencies. They have teamed up with the big three secondary schools and their feeder schools. Plus, partnerships with Cheltenham and Tewkesbury Alternative Provision School and the Virtual School are ongoing. Social Services, Families First, Inspiring Families, the Police, and the Aston Project are also in on the action.
The Rock is all about keeping things fresh. The projects are packed with activities like team games, photography 📸, cooking 🍳, film making, mountain biking 🚵, music 🎶, and more. These projects are designed to be fun, yet supportive, fitting perfectly with what schools and other agencies need. Young people usually get involved for around 8 weeks, but it can be longer if needed.
One thing Louise wants to stress is the importance of popping by The Rock outside ‘formal’ hours. It's your space, and you're always welcome.
The staff are ace! Not only do they help plan and run activities, but they're also there in tougher times—like if someone is arrested or has to go to court. Their flexible approach means they can cater to just about everyone.
Some standout projects? Teaching how to cook on a tight budget, setting up photography exhibitions, and completing community action projects. First Aid training is also on the list.
Louise and the team at The Rock are all about empowering young people. By focusing on your well-being and giving you purpose, they aim to make a positive difference in Cheltenham and beyond.
Keep being awesome! 💪
