The North Wilts Indoor Bowls Club

The North Wilts Indoor Bowls Club, located in Chippenham, is a lawn bowls club that offers both indoor and outdoor bowling facilities. As the only club in the area that provides year-round bowling opportunities, members can enjoy the sport regardless of the season.

The indoor arena features a full-size 6 rink carpet, catering to bowlers of all levels, from beginners to advanced international players. The club also boasts ample car parking, a bar, and restaurant, toilets, and changing rooms. Additional accommodations are available for less abled members, ensuring inclusivity for individuals of all physical abilities.

Membership is open to individuals of any age, ranging from 8 to “rather old,” and is inclusive of both males and females. Prospective members only need to contact the club via telephone or email to inquire about available bowling options. Alternatively, they can visit the club in person to witness the vibrant atmosphere and ongoing activities.

Operated as a registered Limited Company, the club is governed by a board of directors responsible for maintaining compliance with established rules and ensuring the club's financial stability. The facilities are owned by the club and sit on leased land. The establishment of the club was made possible with support from The National Lottery, contributions from other clubs, and loans from original members.

Currently, the North Wilts Indoor Bowls Club boasts approximately 630 bowling members and 100 social members. To ensure adequate bowling time for all members, a dedicated Bowls Committee oversees all aspects of competition. Separate leagues are held every day of the week, providing male and female bowlers with the opportunity to compete against others with similar experience levels. Members can participate in multiple leagues per week based on their availability.

For beginners, the club organises open days and coaching sessions, where bowls and shoes are provided. The club also offers sessions for improving bowlers and those with physical impairments. Additionally, the outdoor green is open from late April to September, offering members the chance to partake in lawn bowls and acquire additional skills through coaching sessions.

Both the indoor and outdoor facilities allow members to represent the club in friendly matches against other clubs, as well as compete in County or National matches and competitions.
