Common in New Zealand as it is in other countries, but The Golden Eagles Line Dance Club in Andover is working hard to change that. Led by the talented and experienced Debbie, who has been dancing since 1995, the club offers a warm and welcoming environment for beginners and experienced dancers alike.
The club holds two classes per week at the Burghclere Down Community Centre in Andover, Hampshire. On Tuesday evenings, from 7:30pm to 9:00pm, beginners gather to learn the basics of line dancing. This class is perfect for those who are new to line dancing or who want to refresh their skills. On Wednesdays, from 7:30pm onwards, the club holds an improver/intermediate class for dancers who have some experience and are looking to challenge themselves.
Absolute beginners may find this class a bit too advanced, but everyone is welcome to come and give it a try.
During the unfortunate period of lockdown in 2020 and part of 2021, the club was unable to meet in person. However, they didn't let that stop them from dancing. The club went virtual and continued to engage their members through online classes and activities via their website. Now that restrictions have eased, they are back to dancing in person and are excited to welcome everyone back to the dance floor.
In addition to their regular classes, The Golden Eagles Line Dance Club also organises weekend social events and dance trips. These events provide dancers with the opportunity to showcase their skills and enjoy live music in a sociable and friendly atmosphere. The club has previously attended events in Chandlers Ford, Whitchurch, and Hatch Warren. They have even enjoyed Linedance Weekends away where they get to put their newly learned dances into practise and have themed nights.
Some of the locations they have visited include Bournemouth, Bideford, Torquay, Paignton, Jersey, Bournemouth, Southsea, Eastbourne, and the Isle of Wight. In 2023, they have already booked three trips to Torquay, Somerset, and the Isle of Wight, with the possibility of adding more dates.
The club prides itself on its close-knit community and the supportive atmosphere that they have cultivated. In addition to the dancers, The Golden Eagles also have a group of followers, lovingly referred to as the Olden Eagles. These are the partners who may not dance themselves but enjoy the music and the social aspects of the club. They can often be found at the bar, engaging in lively conversations and creating a warm and friendly environment for all.
Whether you are a seasoned line dancer or have never tried it before, The Golden Eagles Line Dance Club is the perfect place to let loose on the dance floor and have a great time. Join them for classes, social events, and trips to experience the joy of line dancing in Andover, Hampshire. For more information, feel free to contact Debbie or check out their Facebook page.
