About
Wood Street has long been home to The Comrades Club, and thanks to Steve Mitchell, it's been transformed to meet the needs of its active members. The clubhouse now features a spacious bar, offering a range of real ales, wines, spirits, and soft drinks, all competitively priced.
The bar isn't just for drinks; it's a social hub. Steve ensures a welcoming atmosphere where friendly banter flows easily. Whether you're a regular or a newcomer, you'll feel right at home.
Among the club’s highlights are its four full-size snooker tables, renowned in Oxfordshire. Many of the members compete in local leagues and enjoy friendly in-house tournaments. There’s also a dedicated golf society that Steve organises, with monthly outings and a yearly 3-day tour in June.
Beyond sports, The Comrades Club hosts diverse monthly events—quiz nights, live music, and more. It's a perfect opportunity to connect with others who share your interests.
The Comrades Club operates with varied hours throughout the week. The bar serves lunch from Tuesday to Friday, 11:00 am to 2:30 pm, and stays open all day on Saturday from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm. On Sundays, it opens from midday to 11:00 pm. Note, it's closed on Mondays except for the evening, 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
Membership is open to all, with application forms available at the bar. Non-members can visit with a charitable donation of £1. Steve offers various membership options to suit different needs.
For more information or to join, visit the contact page on their website. The club is active on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for updates. The Comrades Club, thanks to Steve, is a top spot to socialise, engage in sports, and enjoy the Wallingford community’s camaraderie.
