The history of The Birdsgrove Fly Fishing Club dates back to around 1875 when a small group of friends began fishing the waters of the Birdsgrove House Estate in Mayfield and the Alrewas Mill owned by Hanging Bridge. Over the years, the club has grown and evolved, and today it owns and leases approximately 6 miles of mainly double bank fishing. This exclusive access is enjoyed by the current membership, which consists of around 50 individuals.
The Committee of Management takes great pride in upholding the club's long-standing tradition of stewardship for the quality of life within the river and its environment. They also strive to meet the fishing expectations of the club's members and uphold the principles of the club. This commitment is evident in the club's involvement in initiatives such as invertebrate monitoring as part of the Riverfly Partnership since 2009 and a more recent monthly water quality testing project in partnership with the Angling Trust.
