Theatretrain Rugby is a drama school and performing arts group located in Rugby, Warwickshire. Founded by Kevin Dowsett, a renowned theatre professional who taught at Italia Conti and trained stars such as Catherine Tate, Theatretrain offers professional and fun theatre training for children.
The main focus at Theatretrain Rugby is to develop the core theatrical skills that every performer needs. Through singing, dancing, and acting classes, children learn vocal techniques, movement, storytelling, and gain confidence and individuality. The aim is to provide a strong foundation for those who want to pursue a career in performing arts.
The Theatretrain Way is centred around fun and enjoyment. Young people are encouraged to thrive and grow their confidence in a friendly and supportive environment. The teaching staff consists of experienced theatre professionals who have a passion for nurturing young talent.
One of the unique aspects of Theatretrain Rugby is the opportunity for large-scale performances. Children have the chance to showcase their skills at renowned venues, such as the Royal Albert Hall. Additionally, Theatretrain has connexions with a reputable theatre agency, offering the possibility of auditioning for their books and potentially pursuing a fulfilling career in the industry.
The emphasis at Theatretrain Rugby is not only on developing performers but also on building inner confidence and well-rounded individuals. Theatre skills take centre stage, emphasising storytelling, attitude, and adaptability. This approach creates performers who are confident in their abilities and have the skills to navigate a range of artistic challenges.
Theatretrain sessions in Rugby take place at Ashlawn Sixth Form College. The main company sessions cater to ages 6-18 and are divided into age groups. These sessions serve as rehearsals for performances later in the year and are held on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm.
In addition, Theatretrain Rugby is launching a Junior Ensemble, called TT Minis, for children aged 4-5. This 90-minute session provides a fun and foundation level introduction to all three disciplines – singing, dancing, and acting. It focuses on developing storytelling, imagination, and stagecraft skills.
Whether your child dreams of performing on stage or simply wants to build confidence and have fun, Theatretrain Rugby offers a professional and enjoyable experience. Parents are encouraged to book a trial session to see firsthand why thousands of young people have loved being a part of Theatretrain.
