Recognition, and the 4th Streatham Sea Scout Group has proudly held this distinction since 1947.
The 4th Streatham Sea Scout Group, located in Streatham, is a vibrant and active scouting and youth club. With a rich history dating back to 1919, the group prides itself on instilling traditional values and characteristics such as honesty, loyalty, behaviour, and learning to work with others. The group also emphasises discipline and teamwork.
One of the defining features of the 4th Streatham Sea Scout Group is its Royal Patronage. Princess Marie Louise, the Granddaughter of Queen Victoria, took a great interest in the group in 1919. She gave her consent for the 4th Streatham to become her own Scout Group and wear a scarf of Royal Purple. Today, the group is known as “Princess Marie Louise's Own” and continues to uphold its proud royal legacy.
Membership is open to young people aged 5–18 years old, regardless of faith or culture. All members are required to take a promise before investiture into one of the group's four sections: Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Explorers. The group operates on different meeting nights and times for each section, ensuring flexibility and convenience for members.
The 4th Streatham Sea Scout Group places a strong emphasis on water-oriented activities for members over 8 years old. The group has access to excellent facilities and craft for training, with a permanent base at Putney. Safety is paramount, and the group ensures high standards of boating and water-related activities. Activities include canoes, dinghy and gig pulling, sailing, and power craft.
The group is fortunate to have an outstanding boathouse and facilities at Putney, allowing children to progress to a high standard in water activities if they so desire. The group's commitment to excellence is further demonstrated by its Royal Navy Recognition, which requires an annual inspection to ensure standards of smartness and achievement are maintained.
With a dynamic and engaging programme of events and activities throughout the year, the 4th Streatham Sea Scout Group offers its members memorable experiences and opportunities for personal growth. From shooting competitions to summer camps in Germany, there is always something exciting happening for members to participate in.
