Tewkesbury Town Colts is the largest football club in the Tewkesbury area, offering male and female football for all ages and abilities. With a rich history of success, the club has been winning honours both locally and county-wide for over a century. Notable victories include triumphs over renowned clubs like Cheltenham Town and Evesham United.
The current incarnation of Tewkesbury Town was re-established in 1985, but the town has had its own football club for well over a century. Throughout its history, the club has achieved numerous honours, competing in leagues such as Evesham, Cheltenham, and Worcester. In their second season in the Evesham Sunday league, Tewkesbury Town won division 5 and were runners-up in the Bluck Cup. The following season, they won promotion to division 3 and secured the Evesham Subsidiary Cup, finishing as runners-up in the county cup.
In the 1989/90 season, Tewkesbury Town emerged as champions of division 3. Two years later, they won the G. F. A.
Intermediate county cup and gained promotion as runners-up. This period marks one of the most successful eras in the club's history. In the 1992/93 season, they once again won the Evesham Subsidiary Cup. The 1995/96 season saw promotion to division 5 and runners-up finishes in division 1, as well as victories in the Evesham subsidiary cup and the Evesham hospital junior cup.
Continuing their winning streak, Tewkesbury Town claimed the junior cup for three consecutive seasons from 1996/97 to 1998/99. In 1998, a reserve side was established and finished runners-up in their debut season in the Cheltenham league. The following season saw the Sunday side secure another junior cup victory. In 1999/00, the Saturday side won Division 2, but the reserve side disbanded.
However, a new reserve side was formed on Sundays.
The early 2000s proved challenging for Tewkesbury Town, as they struggled to replicate their earlier success. The next few seasons were trophyless, eventually leading to the folding of the Saturday team. However, determined to keep the club alive, former members regrouped and revitalised the Saturday side under the guidance of Stuart Burgess in the 2005/2006 season. This was an immensely successful season, with Tewkesbury Town winning every league game in Division 5 and clinching the league cup against local rivals Bredon.
In the subsequent season, Tewkesbury Town continued their winning streak by securing the Division 4 title, earning their second promotion in consecutive seasons. The Sunday side, managed by Ian Butler, also reached the final of the Evesham hospital minor cup.
Today, Tewkesbury Town Colts is a thriving community club, offering various teams for all ages and genders. They have an active presence on social media platforms and maintain strong links with their sponsors. With a rich history behind them and a commitment to developing football in their region, Tewkesbury Town Colts remain an integral part of the footballing landscape in Tewkesbury.
