Setting up TFA Adelaide. She continues to learn and gain more knowledge in Odissi under her Guru, Ratikant Mohapatra from Orissa, India through yearly or bi-annual workshops.
TFA Adelaide offers classes in Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Semi Classical/Folk Dance, and Hatha Yoga. The school is dedicated to promoting and spreading these beautiful art forms and to providing a holistic development for children and adults alike. They believe that dance and music are essential in connecting individuals to their cultural heritage.
The artistic director and principal of TFA Adelaide, Vithya Karthigesu, is a qualified Bharatanatyam and Odissi Teacher. She completed her Bharatanatyam “arangetram” or graduation in 1992 at the Temple of Fine Arts Kuala Lumpur and her Odissi Solo graduation in 2010 at TFA Penang. Under her guidance, TFA Adelaide has performed for state festivals such as the Ozasia and Fringe festivals, community functions, temple festivals, private functions, and their own annual school show which is a sell-out event each year.
In addition to Vithya's teachings, TFA Adelaide regularly hosts external dance teachers and exponents from other countries for exams, lecture demonstrations, and workshops. This ensures that students have access to a variety of perspectives and expertise in Indian dance.
Vithya Karthigesu, a lawyer turned full-time dance teacher, brings her passion and expertise to TFA Adelaide. Born and raised in Malaysia, she migrated to Australia in 2011 and now resides there with her husband and two sons. Vithya completed her Bharatanatyam arangetram in 1992 and immediately pursued her love for Odissi. In 2010, at the age of 39, she completed her Odissi Solo debut entitled “In Search of Vidhya” at The Temple of Fine Arts Penang.
Her dedication to dance and her desire to share her knowledge with others led her to establish TFA Adelaide in 2012.
The Temple of Fine Arts Adelaide is a true reflection of TFA's belief in “Dance just for the love of it. ” They welcome individuals of all ages and backgrounds to join them in their endeavour to propagate and celebrate these beautiful art forms.
